Miðvikudaginn 14. desember verður haldin málstofa á vegum hug- og félagsvísindasviðs. Þar mun Helen Wildy deildarforseti menntavísindadeildar University of Western Australia (UWA) halda erindi og kynna meistaranám fyrir skólastjórnendur sem menntavísindadeild UWA er að skipuleggja í samvinnu við yfirvöld menntamála í Vestur Ástralíu. Málstofan verður í stofu M203 kl. 10:00 og stendur í u.þ.b. 45 mínútur.
Um erindið segir Helen Wildy:
The University of Western Australia is one of the Group of 8 top universities in Australia, and is ranked 110 on the Shanghai Jiao Tong world ranking and is a member of the World Universities Network
(WUN). In 2013 we celebrate 100 years since our foundation student intake.
Our Faculty has a long history of secondary teacher preparation and we have recently introduced both primary and early childhood initial teacher education courses. Each of these is a two-year full time post graduate course - called a Masters of Teaching degree.
We have strong research in educational measurement and assessment, and in leadership development for school principals. After a decade or more of strong advocacy we have been awarded a contract by the Western Australian government Department of Education to provide post graduate principal preparation courses - a Graduate Diploma in School Leadership and a Master of School Leadership. For some years we have already been offering equivalent courses for leadership development across all sectors - Catholic, Independent and government. The difference is that the government is underwriting 50 places per year in the 4 year part time Masters degree, for 10 years. We believe that the program has the capacity to make a significant impact on the preparation, development and ongoing support of principals across the state.
The Master of School Leadership is offered online and face to face, based on the premise that learning to be a principal involves mastering some of the complex conceptual and interpersonal challenges of leading teaching and learning; leading assessment and accountability; leading the school as an aligned organization; and leading curriculum innovation. The units comprising the course build on a blend of theory and practice, and link to virtual school sites that represent much of the challenge that principals - both novice and experienced - face in their daily work.
In this talk I will outline the course structure and show stimulus materials, assessments and learning activities available to participants in wikispaces.
