Knowledge and understanding

  • Be able to demonstrate a general understanding of the theories, premises, concepts and methods of general applied sciences, including those of mathematics, physics and chemistry
  • Be able to demonstrate a general understanding of the theories, premises, concepts and methods of disciplines relating to business administration and commerce, including economics, finance and management.
  • Be able to demonstrate a systematic knowledge and understanding of the theories, premises, concepts and methods which relate to the production chain of the fishing industry from the environment where the marine species is caught or cultivated until it has become a fully processed product on the market.

Type of knowledge

  • Be able to explain the mutual interaction of man and ocean, and be able to explain the impact of the environment – as well as economic factors – on the fishing industry and how knowledge of these fields is applied to manage projects within the fishing industry.
  • Be able to demonstrate that they have attained a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the latest discoveries within their chosen field in fisheries science.

Applied knowledge

  • Be able to establish aims in project work, determine a work plan and adhere to it.
  • Be able to demonstrate ability in general laboratory work procedures and on field trips where data are collected
  • Be able to apply the methodology of finance as well as empirical science to manage practical projects in the field of fisheries science. Subsequently students should be able to make and justify practical decisions based on the professional analysis of data as well as theoretical knowledge.
  • Demonstrate the ability to write reports and other technical and academic papers which fulfil the standards set within the discipline.

Academic ability

  • Be able to apply scientific criticism to their own works and those of others and to explain the importance of precision and uncertainty in the collection, recording and analysis of data.
  • Be able to apply their knowledge and understanding in academic work and possess the ability to present arguments in support of both academic and applied solutions to problems relating to the fishing industry.

Ability regarding communication, information analysis and presentation

  • Have developed the skill to interpret and present research conclusions within their field of specialisation and be able to communicate their experience, ideas and skills to partners, peers and the public.
  • Possess the ability to actively participate in cooperation where partners may be expected to approach tasks within their specialisation in different ways.

Academic ability

  • Have demonstrated the necessary academic ability and independence in work procedures to be able to cope with challenging work and further study within their field of specialisation
