The goal of AEGEUS- A Novel EEG Ultrasound Device for Functional Brain Imaging and Neurostimulation, is to develop and manufacture a radically new medical device that combines transcranial ultrasound imaging with electroencephalography for brain imaging. This is anticipated to transform the treatment of neurological diseases like epilepsy and stimulate new lines of research in cognitive neuroscience.
The consortium is led by the German Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Medicine MEVIS and the Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering IBMT and involves several partners from academic institutions and industry, Università di Roma La Sapienza, Università degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata, University Clinic of Salzburg, G.TEC Medical Engineering GmbH and AKA Biotech srl.
UNAK is represented by Yvonne Höller, a professor at the Faculty of Psychology. The project started in March this year and lasts until February 2027.
The project got awarded by the European innovation fund (EIC) in the year 2022. That year EIC received 858 proposals but only 57 projects got funded which shows this grant is a big achievement.
