Degree-seeking students

Foreign degree-seeking students apply on an equal basis with Icelandic students for the study programmes offered by the University of Akureyri. Applications are submitted electronically and will be open at the beginning of March until June 5th. If the advertised deadline falls on a weekend or a public holiday the deadline is the first working day after that day.

Polar Law

Application deadline: 1st April for all students. All students should apply by 1st April for the best chance of admission.

  • NON-EU/EEA CITIZEN EXCEPT FOR FAROESE, CANADIAN, RUSSIAN OR US CITIZENS: Applications will not be considered after 1st April.
  • EU/EEA CITIZENS AND CITIENS OF ARCTIC STATES: Later applications will be considered only if there are still places available. No applications will be considered that arrive after 5th June.

Please note that submitted documents are not returned to applicants.

Application fee

Citizens of countries outside EEA/EFTA (exempting the Faroe Islands and Greenland) are required to pay a fee of 50 EUR for the handling and processing of their applications. The fee is charged as part of the online application process. The handling and processing fee is not refundable.

Application requirements

Icelandic matriculation examination (stúdentspróf: school leaving examination after three years of secondary school) or equivalent or at least 60 ECTS from recognized University. Students who apply for admission to graduate programmes must have completed a BA or BSc degree or comparable three-year university studies with a first-class grade (7.25). The admission requirements differ between School.
