Adjusting operations to sustainable development goals

Open seminar held by the Faculty of Business Administration and the UN Global Compact

All welcome to an open seminar held by the Faculty of Business Administration and the UN Global Compact. The seminar will be held in Icelandic. It will be held in room M101 and online here.

Making the future a sustainable and socially responsible entrepreneur

Kjartan Sigurðsson, lecturer at the Faculty of Business Administration, will discuss the University of Akureyri’s participation in the entrepreneurial and innovative environment and discuss the importance of projects that are linked to it, being consistent with sustainability and social responsibility. As entrepreneurship and innovation are key factors in change, their long-term success depends increasingly on a clear focus on sustainable solutions and a sincere desire to meet social challenges. Coordinating entrepreneurial projects with sustainable solutions and social challenges creates value far beyond financial gain and contributes to a stronger and more equitable society. The discussion will focus on how these values benefit society as a whole, as well as strengthening the competitiveness and growth potential of innovative projects.

Benefits and challenges for businesses

Auður Hrefna Guðmundsdóttir, regional director of UN Global Compact in Iceland, discusses the high demands placed on companies regarding good oversight of the social, environmental and management aspects of their operations (ESG aspects). The focus of the talk will be on ways for companies to integrate sustainable development goals into their operations based on the UN Global Compact criteria. The talk will discuss how measurements and reporting can help companies to follow through on goals and put them in the context of the requirements for companies that are stated in the new European sustainability legislation.

All welcome!
