"Give back to the community we are part of"

The Environmental Council of UNAK in collaboration with the Red Cross and exchange students offered a "Pop up" clothing market on the university campus last week. Exchange students took charge of the implementation, selected clothes, and promoted the market.

Sóley Björk, a project manager at the Red Cross, says such projects are absolutely fantastic. "It's so enjoyable and useful when we can work across different societal units to highlight good projects and promote better textile utilization with the environment in mind. Hopefully, this will be the first collaborative project of many with the school."

Daniel Grygorachyk is an exchange student at the school and was one of those who manned the event and was responsible for promotional matters for the market in collaboration with Sóley and the School's Marketing and Public Relations department. "The pop-up market was very successful, and we raised about 60,000 kronas for the Red Cross. The collaboration went well, and it was great to have the opportunity to work with Sóley from the Red Cross, Pálína and Alena, who are also exchange students, and Audrey, a lecturer and chair of the Environmental Council at the university. It allowed us to give back to the community we are part of and connect with Icelandic students. All these driving forces came together to make the market possible. I, Pálína, and Alena are also doing volunteer work with the Red Cross to give even more of ourselves. I hope this encourages more students to participate in projects that support and strengthen our community," Daniel says about the collaboration and work on the market.
